President-elect Donald Trump announced plans to end Daylight Saving Time, citing its inconvenience and financial burden on the US.
The practice, first adopted during World War I, has faced opposition from farmers and was abolished before being reintroduced in 1967.
A bill to end the clock-changing ritual was advanced by the Democratic-controlled US Senate in 2022, but a previous proposal to move permanently to DST was introduced by a Republican senator in 2021.
The push for a permanent time change aims to eliminate the need for Americans to adjust their clocks twice a year, with proponents arguing that the switch could benefit the economy and public health.
