The Food and Drug Administration has upgraded a recall for Lay’s potato chips to Class 1, a level reserved only for recalls in which people’s lives are threatened.

Lay’s Classic Potato Chips have been found to contain milk, which can be deadly to people who are allergic, the agency reports. “Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consumed the recalled product,” a statement reads.

The recall, which was originally announced on December 16th, involves 13-ounce bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips with a “guaranteed fresh” date of February 11th, 2025, and a manufacturing code of either 6462307xx or 6463307xx, according to the FDA.
