American Airlines Plane And Black Hawk Helicopter Crash Near Reagan National Airport

The crew aboard the American Airlines flight that collided with an Army Black Hawk helicopter near Washington, D.C., was based in Charlotte, WCNC reports. With regards to the families, the airline has not identified the crew members.

Authorities said all 64 people aboard the American Airlines flight are feared to be dead. At least 28 bodies have been recovered from the Potomac River after the helicopter reportedly flew into the jet’s path late Wednesday while it was attempting to land at Ronald Reagan National Airport.

The collision is now considered the deadliest U.S. aviation disaster since the September 11, 2001 attacks, with 67 lives lost in total. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the crash, which has left the nation in shock.
