Chappell Roan is stepping into the country music scene with her first-ever country-inspired track, “The Giver.”
The pop sensation’s latest single is set to release on March 13 at 8 p.m. ET, drawing influence from the music she grew up with in Missouri.
Roan announced the news on Instagram, sharing a playful photo of herself wearing a red hard hat and yellow construction vest. The caption revealed that she co-wrote the track with Dan Nigro, marking their first attempt at a country song.
A Personal Connection to Country Music
“I have such a special place in my heart for country music,” Roan wrote. “I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bonfires, grocery stores, and karaoke bars.”
While fans are already speculating if this marks the beginning of a full country album, Roan clarified that she’s simply creating music that brings her joy. “Right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun,” she shared.
Although she isn’t labeling herself a country artist, Roan expressed her respect for the genre.
“The Giver is my take on cuntry xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for yall.”
SNL Debut and Song Preview
Fans got a sneak peek of “The Giver” last fall when Roan performed it on Saturday Night Live alongside her hit “Pink Pony Club.” The upbeat track blends country storytelling with bold lyrics, confidently claiming that no man can match her ability to satisfy a woman. The spoken word portion of the song adds to its provocative nature, with Roan stating, “Only a woman knows how to treat a woman right.”
Bold Lyrics and Promotion
The chorus reinforces this sentiment with lines like, “So take it like a taker, ’cause, baby, I’m a giver / Ain’t no need to hurry, ’cause, baby, I deliver.”
Roan’s character-driven promotion of the single across social media and billboards has built anticipation for its release. “The Giver” will be her first new music since 2023’s “Good Luck, Babe!” from her GRAMMY-nominated album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
