6 years since the tragic UNC Charlotte shooting

UNC Charlotte will mark the sixth anniversary of a tragic shooting that claimed the lives of two students and injured four others with a quiet wreath-laying ceremony at the Kennedy Building.
The university will honor those impacted by the tragedy April 30, 2019, as part of its annual Day of Remembrance.
A permanent campus memorial has been dedicated to honor the victims and provide a space for reflection and contemplation.
Contributing to are stone benches etched with the names of Riley Howell and Reed Parlier, who were tragically killed, along with Rami Alramadhan ’23, Sean DeHart ’21, Emily Houpt ’19 and Drew Pescaro ’22, who were injured.
The memorial, designed as a “constellation garden,” features stone benches etched with the victims’ names and serves as a gathering place for the campus community.
The remembrance ceremony will offer a space for quiet reflection and personal tribute, drawing students, faculty, alumni, and family members affected by the 2019 shooting.

The 21-year-old UNC Charlotte shooting victim, an ROTC cadet, died heroically while attacking the gunman, according to police officials. He was one of two killed.
